do you know why insects have antennae

We have noses which help us smell the world around us. Insects use their antennae or much the same purpose. Although our noses are quite sensitive, insects have a much stronger sense of smell.
The female emperor moth gives out tiny amounts of chemicals called pheromones . using this antennae, the male emperor moth can smell the pheromones almost two km away!!!  His antennae are large and feathery, which improves his ability to smell.
Crickets, the insects you can hear on summer evening have long thin antennae which they use to search for food. To make sure that the antennae work at peak efficiency most insects spend a lot of time cleaning and grooming them
